About MIT
MIT University Sikkim — officially the Management and Information Technology University, Sikkim — is a private university established under Act No. 11 of 2024 by the Government of Sikkim. Located at Melli, Namchi District, the university was set up by the Institute of Management & Technical Studies (IMTS) Foundation with a clear goal: bringing world-class higher education to the northeastern region without students having to leave home.
The university offers programmes across 11 faculties, covering Engineering & Technology, Management & Commerce, Law, Arts & Humanities, Life Sciences and Agriculture. Every course follows the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and is aligned with NEP 2020 guidelines — industry-relevant learning backed by mandatory internships and hands-on training rather than classroom theory alone.
Accessibility is central. The university reserves 25% of seats for Sikkim domicile students, offers 5% merit scholarships to economically disadvantaged students, and maintains 50% reservationin non-teaching positions for local residents — directly supporting employment in the region.
Academic and administrative leadership is provided by Chancellor Shri Varun Gupta and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Deepak Kher, who guide the institution's efforts to connect academic learning with real industry requirements while supporting research, innovation and all-round student development.
