Ph.D. Admission 2026 — Entrance Form | MIT University Sikkim
Start your research journey at MIT University Sikkim, a UGC-recognised private university (Section 2(f), UGC Act, 1956 — Category A) located in Namchi, Sikkim. Admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme is done through an entrance test, not direct admission. This page lets eligible candidates apply online for the Ph.D. Entrance Test (RET).
Who can apply (Eligibility)
- A Master's degree or equivalent in the relevant discipline from a UGC-recognised university.
- Minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade); 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD as per university norms.
- Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET / JRF / GATE / M.Phil. may be eligible for exemptions as per university rules.
Selection Process
- Research Entrance Test (RET) — objective + research aptitude and subject knowledge.
- Personal Interview / Research Proposal Presentation.
- Final merit based on RET + Interview combined score.

- Valid photo ID (Aadhaar/Passport)

- 2-page research proposal / synopsis
- NET/JRF/GATE/M.Phil. certificate (if applicable)

Every research scholar must prepare and submit the Ph.D. thesis strictly as per the university's format and UGC Ph.D. Regulations, 2022. These guidelines ensure uniformity, quality, and academic integrity.

B. Formatting Rules
- Paper size: A4 | Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt (14 pt for headings)
- Line spacing: 1.5 | Margins: Left 1.5 inch, others 1 inch
- Alignment: Justified | Citation style: APA / IEEE / as approved by department
- Pages numbered; all tables and figures captioned.
C. Academic Integrity
- Thesis must clear the plagiarism check as per UGC (Promotion of Academic Integrity) Regulations, 2018.
- Similarity index should be within the permitted limit (generally up to 10%), excluding references and common terms.
- A signed Anti-Plagiarism Undertaking must be attached.
D. Submission Process
- Complete course work and required research publications.
- Present the Pre-Submission Seminar before the RAC.
- Submit the synopsis, then the thesis after approval.
- Thesis is evaluated by external examiners, followed by the open Viva-Voce.
Tip: Get your supervisor's written approval before final printing to avoid re-submission.
Course Work Syllabus

As per UGC Ph.D. Regulations, 2022, every research scholar must complete the Ph.D. Course Work after admission and before beginning thesis research. It builds strong research skills and ethics.
Key Details
- Duration: Minimum one semester (usually the first semester after registration).
- Mode: Regular / on-campus, with prescribed attendance.
- Passing criteria: Minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) to qualify and continue the Ph.D.
Course Structure (Common Papers)
- Paper I – Research Methodology: research design, data collection, sampling, statistical tools.
- Paper II – Research & Publication Ethics (RPE): publication ethics, plagiarism, citation, research integrity.
- Paper III – Subject / Domain-Specific Paper: advanced study in the scholar's discipline.
- Paper IV – Review of Literature / Seminar: literature survey and presentation.
Evaluation
- Written examination + assignments/seminar as decided by the department.
- Result declared through the university examination system.

Ph.D. Course Work Registration Form
Use this form to register for the Ph.D. Course Work and examination at MIT University Sikkim. Only admitted and provisionally registered research scholars are eligible to apply.
Who Should Fill This Form
- Scholars who have completed Ph.D. admission/registration.
- Scholars appearing for the Course Work examination for the first time or as a re-appear.

- Enter your enrolment/registration number and personal details.

Guide / Supervisor Application
Application to Become a Ph.D. Guide / Supervisor
MIT University Sikkim invites eligible faculty members to apply for recognition as a Ph.D. Supervisor (Guide). Recognition is granted as per UGC Ph.D. Regulations, 2022.
Eligibility (as per UGC norms)
- Must be a regular Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor of the university with a Ph.D. degree.
- Professor: at least 5 publications in peer-reviewed / UGC-CARE listed journals.
- Associate Professor: at least 3 publications.
- Assistant Professor: at least 2–3 publications (as per university policy).
Scholar Guidance Limit (at a time)
- Professor: up to 8 scholars
- Associate Professor: up to 6 scholars
- Assistant Professor: up to 4 scholars
How to Apply
- Fill the Guide/Supervisor Application Form.
- Attach CV, Ph.D. certificate, and list of publications.
- Mention your research area / specialisation.
- Submit to the Research Cell for scrutiny by the Research/Doctoral Committee.
After approval, eligible faculty are added to the approved supervisor panel and issued an Appointment Letter.
Appointment Letter
Supervisor Appointment Letter | MIT University Sikkim
Once a faculty member is approved as a Ph.D. Guide/Supervisor and a scholar is allotted, the university issues an official Appointment Letter. This letter formally records the supervisor–scholar research relationship.
What the Appointment Letter Contains
- Name and designation of the Supervisor (and Co-Supervisor, if any)
- Name and registration number of the research scholar
- Research discipline / topic area
- Date of appointment and reference/approval number
- Roles, responsibilities, and university guidelines to be followed
Process to Receive It
- Supervisor recognition is approved by the Doctoral/Research Committee.
- A scholar is allotted to the supervisor.
- The Ph.D. Section issues the Appointment Letter to both the supervisor and the scholar.
- A copy is added to the scholar's academic record.
How to Download
- Log in to the Scholar/Faculty Portal.
- Go to "Appointment Letter" and click Download.
- Keep a signed copy for official use.
Note: The Appointment Letter is an official document. Any change of supervisor must follow the university's approved procedure.
