Anti-Ragging

MIT University Sikkim maintains a zero-tolerance policy against ragging. Any form of ragging on campus is strictly prohibited and attracts severe disciplinary action, including expulsion. The Anti-Ragging Committee is constituted in line with directives from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Supreme Court of India, and works proactively to prevent ragging while maintaining a safe, secure and harmonious environment for every student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mandatory Affidavits — every student and parent/guardian submits anti-ragging affidavits at admission, including a hostel resident's declaration, with annual renewal required.
  • Awareness Programmes — freshman orientation sessions, anti-ragging workshops, faculty sensitisation and peer counselling initiatives run through the year.
  • Monitoring Systems — CCTV surveillance in hostels, regular hostel inspections, an anonymous reporting system and structured student feedback mechanisms.
  • 24/7 Helpline — a dedicated helpline number, emergency response team, online complaint portal and confidential counselling services available round the clock.

This layered approach — combining legal compliance, active prevention, continuous monitoring and swift response — reflects how seriously MIT Sikkim treats student safety. For parents sending a child to a relatively new campus, often from another state, a functioning and UGC-compliant Anti-Ragging Committee is one of the most important checks to make before admission.

Students who witness or experience ragging are encouraged to use the 24/7 helpline or the anonymous portal immediately rather than staying silent, since early reporting is what allows the committee's monitoring systems to actually work.
